Nanny: Snežana Halilović

I highly recommend our nanny, Snežana Halilović. Our family has lived in Sarajevo for the past four years, and in that time she has done an amazing job of caring for our son. Snežana has been with our family since our son was four months old.

Snežana has always cared for our son with love, respect and empathy. She has a strong ability to bring out the best in the children she works with. Under her care, our son has developed many positive behaviors. Snežana has high but fair expectations for our son, very much in line with what we expect. She has modeled positive behaviors and gently but firmly spoken to him about problems or concerns when they have arisen. Snežana has a wonderful understanding of early-childhood behavior, and we have greatly appreciated this in her work with our son.

Snežana is wonderful at playing with children in ways that benefit their development, as well as being fun! She plays with our son imaginatively, and often manages to expand his understanding of social behaviors, language, and mathematics. Snežana pays attention to our son’s interests and helps to nurture his curiosity and interest in the world around him.

Snežana speaks English well. We have asked her to speak Bosnian with our son, and she has done a wonderful job of teaching him the language through conversation, games and songs. It has always been easy and pleasant communicating to Snežana about our son’s needs.

Over the years, Snežana has helped us in innumerable ways. She has taken care of pets and our house when we’ve been away. Snežana has babysat on nights and weekends when we’ve needed it, and has cleaned and cooked for us as well. Her husband has also helped us with basic repairs and home maintenance.

Snežana has 14 years of experience working as a nanny. Our family feels very lucky to have had her in our lives. When we leave Sarajevo this summer we all will miss her tremendously.

Houskeeper: Alma

I wanted to warmly recommend our house cleaner to anyone! Alma has been faithfully cleaning our house weekly for close to 3 years now. She is fantastic, always on time, trustworthy and thorough.

Although she only speaks Bosnian, she is used to cleaning houses of people who don't speak Bosnian. If you are interested in having Alma clean your house, feel free to contact me and I can contact her for you. I have put her in touch with several people and I don't mind doing that again.

Also, her husband is a really good "fix it man" and painter, as well as construction worker. If you need help in that area, please let me know.

Nanny: Ivana Sose

Dear All,

My family and I are leaving Sarajevo at the end of December 2014.
We have been here for 2 and half years, and during all this time our family has been enriched by the presence of Ivana, our babysitter and friend.

Ivana has taken care of my first born since he was 1 year, and of my second born since he was 5 weeks old. She has been for them a great game companion, and a tender and safe support.

I will not list all the things that make her a good babysitter…it would be a too long list. Ivana is trustworthy, punctual, kind, sweet, flexible, extremely respectful, and discreet. She has a lot of experience, but will never impose it on you.

What has made her very dear to us is her being so attentive and sensitive not only to the kids but also to my husband and me. It is not easy to find people capable of such sensitivity and intelligence.
She has been a real support for me, and has taken care of my kids like I would. Even when I was far for work, I felt always very confident she would take care of them as if they were her family.

It is hard to leave her. For my oldest son, it is obvious that Ivana will follow us wherever we go…she is family.

When I hired Ivana and asked for her references, I received 6 or 7 emails from her previous employers. In all the emails the same sentence was written: you would be lucky to have Ivana in your family.

And they were right.

Maddalena
